Who we are?

We are a mixed group of people from a wide variety of backgrounds who meet together because of our commitment to Jesus Christ.

Our church has been in Carlisle since 1895. By describing ourselves as an Evangelical Church, we are saying that sharing the good news about Jesus is one of the most important aspects of our church life. A team of elders and deacons lead the church and we are a member of the Evangelical Alliance.

All our activity is ...

"to Glorify God by being and making disciples"

(Matthew 28:18-20)

What we believe

Our basic beliefs are the same as all the main Christian Churches who have doctrines based on the Apostles creed.

Some of the truths that we find most important are:

  • That the Bible is God’s inspired word to us. It is entirely reliable and through it we can learn how to live life as God requires;
  • That Jesus Christ is God and it is only through the Holy Spirit that we can enjoy a close and personal relationship to God;
  • That to become a Christian involves being given a new life through confessing our sin and believing in Jesus as our Saviour;
  • That Jesus Christ has conquered death and this gives every Christian a definite hope for their future life.

(A fuller statement of faith is available on request)

Why we get together

  • To worship God in a meaningful and relevant way
  • To care for and encourage each other
  • To help our world discover and know God
